REIGNING Northern League champions Morecambe claimed the local bragging rights as they put near neighbours Carnforth to the sword on Saturday.
Pace ace Gareth Pedder was the bowling star while professional Werner Coetsee got among the runs to make the game safe.
Morecambe skipper Mark Lomas won the toss and opted to bowl - and that decision paid a handsome reward as Pedder ripped through the Carnforth order.
It was a good start for Carnforth, however, as Lyndell Richardson and Ryan Nelson got going. But they went for 33 and 37 respectively - but in the face of Pedder's pace and the spin of Coetsee they crumbled.
Only Ben Hornby, 50, and a late 27 from Irfan Fazil pushed the score to a respectable 183 all out in 43 overs as Pedder claimed 5-57 from 16 overs and Coetsee 4-31 from 10.
Vishnal Goyal fell for three as Morecambe's reply stuttered - but fellow opener Mark Woodhead made 33 before being run out to get them on track. Coetsee followed up his fine bowling spell with a majestic 91 and Lomas hit 29 to see his side home by six wickets with overs to spare.
