A TENSE last-over finish ended with Cumberland losing by one run to Herefordshire in their MCCA Trophy match at Workington on Sunday.
Cumberland asked Herefordshire to bat and Hall (93) and Langford (50) were their main contributors in a total of 206-5.
For Cumberland, ex-Durham CCC batsman Gary Pratt hit a top-scoring 59 as they bravely rallied from 99-7, but after he and Marcus Sharp put on 50, they departed in quick succession and the score stood perilously at 166-9.
Last pair,Chris Miller, from Kendal CC, and David Rooney took Cumberland took the brink of victory, needing three off the last over to win.
But after Rooney nudged a single off the second ball, Miller was adjudged lbw off the next delivery and Herefordshire won by a single run.
