KENDAL skipper John Trewenneck pointed out the side are 38 points better off than this time last year when they had just one point after the same four fixtures.

"It's pleasing - we're playing competitive cricket and let's hope we can keep producing the goods.

"Terry (Hunte) is something else - a complete cricketer and with him and Ikram (Ullah) batting so well, there's a bit of a personal duel with the bat there that's doing the club no harm.

"Spinner Chris Miller was said to be under-bowled last season, but we've given him his head this time and he's taken 12 wickets after four games after picking up 17 in total last season.

"It all bodes well, but we have some interesting games ahead and going back to Netherfield next Sunday is one of them!"

SCOTT Clement, the Netherfield skipper, is hoping that the Cockspur Cup national knock-out derby match against Kendal this Sunday will concentrate minds.

"He said: "We put in a bad day at the office against Chorley on Saturday and to be honest the arrival of our professional Charl Langeveldt can't come quick enough. We were guilty of some silly cricket on the day - a couple of daft run-outs included - and we have to smarten up our act.

"Against Fleetwood, we batted on because we'd heard their professional Kyle Smit was a fair bat and, to be honest, I didn't know that much about our Aussie substitute.

"We are looking forward to playing Kendal on Sunday when professionals can't play - which is good as we don't have ours yet!"
