THE Brathay Ten in Ten Challenge' starts today (Friday) when nine runners will attempt to complete ten marathons in ten days leading up to the Windermere Marathon itself on May 20.
The challenge starts and finishes at Brathay Hall and is part of Brathay's 60-year anniversary celebrations. Legendary fell-running hero Joss Naylor will start the nine experienced marathoners on their way to run the 26 miles distance around Windermere daily between May 11-20.
It constitutes a world record attempt - ten marathons on an officially measured course over ten consecutive days.
The anti-clockwise route passes through Hawkshead, Newby Bridge, Bowness and Ambleside.
Brian Meakin, a competitor from Kendal, commented: "This Brathay record-breaking challenge illustrates the extreme fitness and commitment by our nine runners and I am delighted to be part of it."
He added: "Both of these running events are an important fund-raising exercise to extend Brathay's charitable work which will touch the lives of even more children and young people."
