The British Kite Surfing event being held this weekend at Walney may be visited by three times and current KiteSurf World Champion, English Rider Aaron Hadlow.
If rumours prove to be true, 2006 Pro Men's champion Lewis Crathern from Worthing will have a fight on his hands as three times and current KiteSurf World Champion, English Rider Aaron Hadlow has stated on his website that he wants to compete in the BKSA Round 2 Event in Barrow this weekend.
"We are delighted to be holding Round 2 of the BKSA Grand Prix at Walney Island." said Richard Gowers, Chairman of the BKSA.
"It is important that the tour reaches as many parts of the UK as possible and Earnse Bay is an excellent location."
"With the BKSA only holding 7 Grand Prix events per year in the UK, it is a real honour to be hosting Round 2 of the Championships in Barrow" says Gary Powell from North West Kiting, event organiser and sponsor for Round 2.
"We are grateful to all our sponsors for this event and in particular to West Lake Renaissance for meeting the main funding costs and to David Haughian who was instrumental in securing these funds."
The event is expected to bring over 50 competitors to Barrow from all over the UK and this year the BKSA are delighted to welcome the international riders from South Africa Sjoukje Bredenkamp & Taro Niehaus .
With riders having been training hard this winter in foreign climates including; South Africa, Australia and the Philipines, they may not be prepared for the cold northern waters but can expect a warm welcome from the locals.
A mass of colour will descend on the beach from Thursday onwards with the event all set to provide an awesome display for the spectators as competitors pull out all the stops to land big air moves, together with the latest wake style tricks.
With a win in Round 1 at Watergate Bay, 2006 Pro Men's champion Lewis Crathern from Worthing will be competing to hold onto his lead in this year's championships and defend last years title.
However if rumours prove to be true, Lewis will have a fight on his hands as - three times and current KiteSurf World Champion, English Rider Aaron Hadlow has stated on his website that he wants to compete in the BKSA Round 2 Event in Barrow this weekend.
We are waiting for conformation on this but it would be a major scoop for the Barrow Event as it will be the first time that Aaron has competed in a BKSA event for since 2003.
Northern lads, Ali Barrett (aged 17) & Mark Conolly from Blackpool will be hoping to capitalise on their success in Watergate when they finished in 2nd & 3rd places respectively in the Pro Men's Comp.
Fresh from his success in the Kite Speed World in Port Saint Louis France in April 2007, when he gained a world ranking of 5, David Williams will compete at the Barrow event and is sure to display his winning style on the speed runs if the conditions prove favourable. Maybe we will see a new British GPS record set!
South African Speed kiters, riders, Sjoukje Bredenkamp & Taro Niehaus will be competing at the BKSA event.
Sjoukje Bredenkamp (aged 18) holds the current Women's World Record for Speed Kiting Taro Niehaus (aged 21) is currently ranked 6th in the World for Speed Kiting 2006 Pro Women's champion Steph Bridge will also defend her title. Losing out to Andreya Wharry at Watergate means that Steph now holds second place in this year's tour and will be riding hard for success at Barrow.
