KENDAL Judo Club fighter Nathan Hogg has earned the title of British number one in the 15/16-year-old age band and with it a place at an international tournament in Holland in April.

If he does well in that tournament he will also win a place on the British team for the prestigious European Youth Olympic Days' tourn-ament later in the year.

He was the youngest competitor fighting in the Under-55 kilo category at the Youth Olympic Trials in Sheffield and after decimating the best opposition from the British Isles, he was invited to take part in a trial involving the top six players in the country.

Hogg won all five of his contests with a full point (ippon) score, including demolishing former British number one Lee Storey with a drop shoulder throw (seoi nage).

Meanwhile, fighting in the Under-66 kilo category, Kendal's Danny Finney started badly by losing to the eventual winner, but came back by beating the other four in his weight with a variety of techniques to also earn his place as part of the British Dutch Cup team.
