CROSS-COUNTRY: There were some outstanding performances from Cumbrian athletes as the cream of the nation's young cross-country runners took part in the English Schools' Athletic Association's championship at Temple Newsham, Leeds, on Saturday.
Cumbria's Laura Park, who runs for Ellenborough and lives at Dearham, was the winner of the intermediate girls' race while Border Harrier Tom Farrell, a pupil at Carlisle's Austin Friar's School, was fourth in the intermediate boys' race.
Ulverston's Peter Huck turned in a good performance in the senior boys' event finishing 51st with Sedbergh School's Simon Barnby - winner of last week's Wilson Run - coming home 53rd and Kendal's Kieran Alderson 115th.
Ellie Wilson of Barrow and Furness Striders was first Cumbrian home in the junior girls' race supported by Jessica Sissons (98) and Vicky Johnston (139).
Kendal's Jos Addison worked hard to lead home the Cumbrian contingent in the junior boys' event with an 87th position with Matthew Grieve 91st and Richard Flint 114th Rebecca Gledhill was the first senior Cumbrian home in the senior girls' race, finishing 93rd.
