MOTORCYCLING: Kendal-based Tony George Racing team is taking on a new challenge. After racing in the Superstock Cup for three years with various riders at the British Superbike Championship meetings, and enjoying success there is a change of focus.
The team is building a Supersport R6 Yamaha for Barrow rider Dan Stewart to race at the Centenary TT on the Isle of Man and also the North-West 200 and the Ulster GP. These inter-national road races have come to be known collectively as the big three.' Stewart finished eighth in last year's Supersport TT on an almost standard motorcycle with a fastest lap on the 600 at 120.330 mph.
The engine for this year's TT has been built by Guy Martin, one of the quickest riders ever around the Isle of Man and a good friend of the Georges, along with some extra work done by Chris Mahew over in Lincolnshire.
Stewart's main sponsor is Wilcock Consulting, who have provided a brand new R1 Yamaha for the coming season. The R1 used last year has been converted into a Superbike for the roads and Stewart has set his sights on achieving as many top-ten finishes as possible.
Tony George said: "I have known Dan for a number of years as he is a regular competitor at British championship level in the main Superstock class and have no doubt that the targets he has set himself are more than realistic.
"But as always we have to achieve a budget are inviting anyone interested in sponsoring this effort to contact either Dan on 01229 824 757 or myself on 07739 906 390."
