When golfers tee off at Barrow Golf Club on April 27 in one of the six qualifying competitions of the Recycle for Cumbria Golf Championship, they will also be helping the county to go green.
The championship, being run from April to June, is a flagship event in the Recycle for Cumbria campaign which aims to help the county achieve a recycling rate of 60 per cent by 2011 to 2012. The championship opens in the Furness district with the first qualifying round at Barrow Golf Club on April 27, and culminates with the final at Kendal Golf Club on June 8 during Recycle Now Week. The top five pairs will receive trophies made from recycled materials, which will be presented by John Craven at the awards dinner.
Non-golfing members of the family and friends are also invited to the Barrow qualifying round, which will feature a recycling roadshow with recycling rangers on hand to advise householders how to improve their recycling performance and to help find solutions for those people who may find it difficult to recycle household waste.
