LOCAL doctor Dan Golding won the Coniston 14 running in the colours of Ambleside AC.
Golding, who lives in Coniston and is a GP in Grange, is training for the London Marathon. He faced a tough battle to the finishing line, his winning time of 1hr 15min 10sec, giving him only six seconds to spare over Jonathan Frost (East Hull), who took second place in 1-15-16.
More than a minute behind in third was Ian Crampton (Durham City Harriers) in 1-16-32.
Other South Lakeland runners in the top places included Garry Dixon (Barrow & Furness) in 1-19-39, who was seventh, and Kendal AC's Paul Dugdale, 10th in 1-22-24.
Kate Chapman (Morpeth H) was the first woman, 48th overall in 1-29-46.
