HUNDREDS of runners line up on Saturday for the road race which has become a Lake District Classic. The Coniston 14, a complete circuit of the lake, starts from John Ruskin School at 11am and year after year is fully subscribed, with many runners seeing it as an ideal warm up for the London Marathon next month.

On the football front, Kendal Town face another challenge in their fight to stay in the UniBond Premier Division when Frickley Athletic visit Town's Planet Conservatories Stadium. Town desperately need to pull clear of their relegation-threatened 19th place and Frickley, in 16th, are one of the target teams who could possibly be overhauled. Kick-off is at 3pm on Saturday.

Kendal Men meet Formby and victory would make them safe in North West Division Seven North at the Cinderovens pitch in Kendal.

Kendal Rugby Club are away at Hull and, although safe in mid table in North Division One, will be hoping to rid themselves of the away jinx which has cost them so many points this season.
