LEFT without a fixture this weekend, Kendal Town are aiming for a sweet double before Easter in back-to-back home matches to ensure their Premier Division future, writes Richard Daniels.

Boss Lee Ashcroft was heartened by a fine comeback against table-toppers AFC Telford in last Saturday's 2-2 draw. But he is already busy plotting the downfall of strugglers Leek Town who visit the Planet Conservatories Stadium on Saturday week, to be followed by mid-table Frickley Athletic a week later.

Ashcroft urged all Town supporters to turn out and make it bumper crowds for these two important games.

"I want to say to the public of Kendal that it's their turn to come through the turnstiles and get behind us because they've a big role to play as well.

"They'll enjoy the way we are going to play, I promise, and it would be nice to get 4-500 to cheer us on.

"We got that figure last year for the play-offs and this is just as important to me."

Ashcroft relished playing in front of a big crowd at Telford. There was half an hour's delay to the kick-off while the the wet pitch was sanded, but Ashcroft said: "We used the time to have a good chat in the dressing-room and by the buzz you could sense that we were going to get something out of the match."

Those expectations took a jolt when Town went a goal down within just 30 seconds of the start, but they came back to take a 2-1 lead before half time courtesy of a Peter Wright penalty and a Lee Arnison goal.

Although a second-half equaliser arrived to deny Town the upset, Ashcroft relished what was a fine comeback in front of a large vociferous and partisan crowd.

"It was brilliant - in front of 2,000 fans we could easily have been found wanting after going behind to that early goal. But we have a bit of confidence in our ability, while they are in the middle of a poor run.

"It was one-way traffic for 45 minutes and I knew a goal would come. The player who committed the penalty offence should have been sent off as he was the last man and then Telford would really have been in a fix.

"Peter (Wright) made it four goals in four matches but the lads were saying it should be eight!

"It was good to see Gareth (Arnison) apply a great finish as that will do him the power of good, but everyone deserves credit for a great team effort."
