FOUR order of merit tournaments underpin an extensive pro-am calendar in the PGA North Region this season.

Flagship event is The Rock at Matfen Hall on August 6-8 which carries a £30,000 prize-fund and was won by Wakefield's Aran Wainwright last summer.

For the sixth occasion, the curtain raiser will be the hugely popular Rock Junior Festival.

Next up on August 21-23 is the Leeds Cup, the oldest trophy in professional golf dating back to 1902, which is back at its original home at Cobble Hall.

Leasowe assistant Neil Price expected to defend his title he captured the second time after a three-way play-off. The preceding pro-am will be sponsors by brewers John Smiths.

Northumberland resort Burgham Park, a new venue last season, was the scene of a dramatic finish in the PGA North Region Championship when Chorley professional Mark Bradley won by two shots from former European Tour player Paul Eales.

After opening with a pro-am on September 26, the 54-hole tournament runs for the following three days.

The date and venue for the M.E.N. Manchester Open have yet to be confirmed along with the Rednet Fourball Championship.

Topping the pro-am schedule is the Manx Classic on June 21-23 which resumed at Castletown last year thanks to new sponsors Derry-based McCambridge Duffy LLP.

Silloth-on-Solway and Penrith host the Cumbrian Classic on May 30-31; the long-established Brough Classic is on June 4-5; and the Hydro Hotel Lakes Classic is on September 1-1.

Meanwhile, Sheffield club Dore and Totley stages the Harold Lees Trophy, which includes a pro-am, for assistant professionals on September 9-11.
