A KENDAL Olympic prospect regaled pupils at his former school with tales of his inter-national sporting achievements, writes James Williamson.
Former Castle Park Primary School pupil Glen Robinson was invited back to speak to pupils about his recent experiences in Canada, where he took part in his first major international water polo tournament.
The 17-year-old, who started playing at Kendal Water Polo Club, aged 12 and is now a key member of British champions Lancaster, said he was both nervous and nostalgic in equal measure as he retraced his first tentative steps in to the world of education.
However, having spoken to the assembled children, he admitted that he was proud to have been asked to return to the school and even recalled going up to the front of the school hall many years ago to collect his 5m swimming badge.
The junior Great Britain polo player told pupils about his experiences at the Pan-Pacific International tournament held in Calgary, Canada, from December 27 to 31, during which he competed against teams from Canada, New Zealand, Australia and the United States.
He described how he scored the vital third penalty to take the side through to the final against Australia, where they were unfortunately defeated.
Having returned with a silver medal, Glen said that he was now looking forward to qualifying for the European Championships, which will be held in Malta in July this year.
Glen's mother, Carol Robinson, said that the whole family was very proud of him.
"We think that the Olympics could be within his grasp. He currently has a British Olympic Association silver card that makes him a prospect for the 2012 Olympics," she said.
