SEEING (at least some of) the planets in our solar system is easy - all you have to do is look up and you can see all the planets out to, and including, Saturn with just your naked eye, looking like bright stars shining in the sky.

But it is very hard to grasp how big those planets are, and how big our solar system is, isn't it?

Well, the Eddington Astronomical Society is about to fix that!

On Saturday (October 10) between midday and 3pm, we'll be recreating the solar system inside, and around, Kendal Castle.

By marking out the relative positions of the planets in a line running from the Castle ruins right down the hill, we'll be making Cumbria's first ever scale model of the solar system.

By visiting our model you'll be able to see how big the planets are compared to each other, and how far apart they are too.

There'll also be information sheets to collect and amateur astronomers from all over Cumbria to quiz about space.

So, if you want to enjoy a pleasant walk, see gorgeous views of Kendal and learn about science at the same time, come and join us at Kendal Castle on Saturday.
