I was horrified to see the images of blocked roads and litter left by visitors to the Lake District the other weekend.
These people clearly had no respect for the local environment or our local communities.
We are still in the middle of a global pandemic and these people saw fit to 'park' on our roads in a way that rendered them impassable to emergency vehicles, they lit barbecues creating a fire risk and they left litter strewn all over the place, increasing the risk of virus transmission and putting additional strain on our local services.
According to one report 70 per cent of these visitors had brought alcohol with them and 68 per cent would never normally come here.
Is this the diversity of visitor that Richard Leafe says he wants to attract to our beautiful national park?
I hope not, we absolutely do not want or need these sorts of visitors.
