In spite of all the opposition, it now seems work on the immensely unpopular flood defences in Kendal will proceed in the autumn.
I guess we should be thankful that at least the doomed trees will be heading towards sleep and most of the birds will have raised their offspring.
It is of course illegal to knowingly disturb or damage nests during the breeding season.
Perhaps those responsible for changing the face of Kendal considered that would have been a step too far in testing the deep upset and simmering anger of the opposition?
