A RUGBY team are hosting a free open training session to encourage women to give the sport a try.
Kendal Wasps are encouraging all women aged 16 and over to find their ‘warrior spirit’ at Kendal RFU on August 20 from 14:00 – 17:00 PM.
Coaches and experienced first-team players will be on hand to teach the very basics, including passing, kicking and tackling, using a variety of skills games alongside fitness drills.
The women’s team made club history last season by going unbeaten in the women’s NC1 North League, earning the Wasps promotion to the Women’s Championship North Two League.
Team Manager India Brennan, said: “Following a phenomenal season, the atmosphere amongst the Wasps is unstoppable. It’s really exciting to see everyone’s enthusiasm for sharing the positivity and growing the team.
“With players of all levels, a competitive 1st XV and a fun, pressure-free development squad, there has never been a better time to give rugby a go.”
The Wasps are now looking to support the formation of a second team as part of their player development pathway by significantly increasing the number of women attending training sessions.
Team Coach Sophie Hicks, said: “Warrior Camp the best place for experienced players to blow away the cobwebs on their skills and for anyone new to rugby to come and see what it's all about!
“The squad are keen to welcome women of all ages and abilities from across Kendal and the surrounding areas to show what the club has to offer and the brilliant team you can be part of.
“So come down take part, ask questions and most of all enjoy yourself. It could be the best thing you do this year.”
