FIVE Kendal swimmers have been making waves as they competed in the Ullswater Epic Swim and Cumbria ASA Open Water League alongside Epic events throughout the year.
The opening round brought some spectacular results for Team Kendal, especially for Emma Duxbury, who took a maximum 100 points in the 11/13yrs category by snatching victory with a well-timed swim and storming finish in a time of 07.49 for the 500m.
Charlotte Stainer was also in fine form and she too produced a brilliant effort forcing her way through a strong field to take third place in a time of 08.11 bringing her a total of 95 points.
Ruby Duxbury and Eleanor King both performed well and gained a wealth of experience from which to build on in future events, powering their way into sixth and seventh places.
The boy’s 14/15yrs category had the highly experienced Max Ainsworth taking full advantage of the mild conditions and quickly put himself in a position for success.
Setting a steady pace through the early part of the race he then began to increase his stroke rate, forcing his way into the leading bunch and in a sprint for the finish took third place for the one-mile swim in 26.30 which brought him 84.65 points.
For the rest of the Club’s swimmers it was back to Level X racing for times and rankings.
Molly Moran and Elliot Woodburn emerged as the most successful. Moran produced dazzling swims at both 50 Backstroke and 100 Freestyle holding off strong challenges from Sophie Gibson, Lucie Bulman and Rosemary Swallow.
Once again, Woodburn dominated, but James Escolme was also in magnificent form and pushed Woodburn all the way.
Escolme continued to show his talents with an outstanding swim to head the 200 Butterfly event.
Then the stars of the future got their chance to test their skills and they didn’t disappoint.
Both Emelia Bird and Jarno Stander quickly settled into their stroke patterns and headed the 50 Breaststroke then went on to set second-best times at 50 Butterfly.
Felicity Pattinson had similar results leading 50 Butterfly then following up with 50 Breaststroke.
Finley Wood also set a lead time with his effort in the 50 Butterfly, whilst Lucy Klijn produced a magnificent show of strength and superb technique to lead home the 200 Butterfly contenders.
