KENDAL Swimming Club has continued with its programme of Laser X races in the face of Covid, but it was now the turn of the senior swimmers to test their competitive skills.
First up was the girls 100m backstroke, which saw some magnificent stroke work and outstanding turns from Molly Moran, Emma Duxbury and Elise Tallon.
Over the first 50m all three stuck to their stroke patterns with no outstanding challenges and obviously saving their exertions for the last length.
However into the final 50m, Moran began another injection of pace and challenged for the lead. Out of her final turn she moved up a gear and stormed through to triumph ahead of Duxbury and Tallon.
The Boys 100m Backstroke proved equally as exciting with a clash between Elliot Woodburn, James Escolme and Jacob Klijn.
They all got brilliant starts and with Woodburn setting the pace Escolme and Klijn made supreme efforts and would not leave Woodburn's shoulder.
Into the last 50m they were neck and neck and each then made their bid for success. In a storming finish however it was Woodburn who did just enough to take the win ahead of Escolme and Klijn.
The programme then moved on to the 200m breaststroke.
The girls event produced remarkable performances from Chloe Westmorland, Ellie Bottomley and Elise Tallon. Westmorland and Bottomley matched each other stroke for stroke with Tallon working hard as well. Despite attacks they all held their nerve and into the pressure zone Hitting the finish, the win went to Westmorland who just touched ahead of Bottomley by a fraction of a second.
The boys 200 breaststroke saw Elliot Woodburn at his finest and right from the start he put himself on the front and showing how he had too much skill at this stroke for his opponents and with a masterly swim led from start to finish and never looked likely to lose.
