STUDENTS and teachers at Kirkbie Kendal School have been praised for their hard work in a year which produced record GCSE successes.

In his annual prize-giving day speech, on Tuesday, headteacher Phil Hyman described the GCSE performances as ‘brilliant’. He also thanked parents for supporting their children throughout the last academic year.

He pointed out that 86 per cent of students achieving five or more A*-C grades and over a quarter of all grades were awarded A* or A.

He also reported ‘pleasing’ ‘A’ level results, with just under half of all grades awarded A*-B.

“I would like to thank my colleagues and the students for their hard work and our parents for their support,” said Mr Hyman, who also praised achievements in other aspects of the school’s life such as the production of We Will Rock You, charity work and student achievements in a World Challenge month in Borneo and the Duke of Edinburgh Awards.
