IT was smiles all-round at one South Lakeland school this morning as year 11 students rushed to pick up their GCSE results.

One of the top performers at Dallam School, Milnthorpe, was Rachel Towers, of Lindal, who gained ten A* grades and one A.

Although expecting to do well, she was still surprised with the results.
“I was predicted to do this well but it was daunting, so I am absolutely made-up with my grades and I can now go on to sixth form at Lancaster Grammar School.

“I remember coming with my brother when he picked his up years ago, and he did really well, so I had to follow him.”

And Leah Bury, who lives near Kendal, was thrilled with three A*, six A, a B and a C grade, after being hospitalised just before exams.

She said: “I was in hospital for a week and intensive care for three days so I missed a lot of revision time and one exam.

“I hope I would do well but had to realise that I might not, so I am really happy.”

Other high-achievers included Matthew Edge, who went away with nine-and-a-half  A* and one A, George Beale, who gained five A8, five A and one B, and Harvey Thompson, who got six A*, three A and one C.

Headteacher, Steve Holdup, said:

“There have been some excellent GCSE results again this year. I was particularly pleased that the boys seem to be catching up with the girls.

"Students have done really well in creative subjects like art, drama, music and design as well. Its all down, of course, to the hard work of students and their teachers.”
