A-LEVEL results in Cumbria appear to have reached a ‘high-standard’ plateau, early indications revealed today.
Thousands of year 13 students nervously rushed to schools and colleges this morning to open their dreaded envelopes containing all-important grades.
And figures suggest that the proportion of pupils gaining at least one A* - E level is broadly in line with last year, sitting at 98 per cent.
This parallels national statistics, which have shown the overall pass rate in the UK to be 98 per cent.
Cumbria County Council's cabinet member for schools and learning, Duncan Fairbairn, commented on the sustained high standards in the county.
He said: “It’s very pleasing to see such a significant number of students securing good results. This is a testament to their individual commitment and hard work."
And Westmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Farron praised South Lakeland students.
He said: “I congratulate our students and their families on their hard work in achieving excellent results which shows their commitment and dedication.
"I also congratulate the teaching and support staff for the hard work they have shown to enable our young people to achieve these fantastic results. To improve our counties results yet again this year is a fantastic achievement and my congratulations go to all involved.”
In north Yorkshire early figures also show schools recording outstanding scores, as well as high numbers of the county’s students gaining places at their first choice institutions.
