Westmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Farron has offered his congratulations to the area's students on their record breaking A-level results this morning.
Thousands of teenagers in the area received their A-level exam results from 8.30am today.
While the number of top grades among students across the UK went down by 0.4 per cent from 2011, the overall pass rate rose for the 30th year in a row, with 98 per cent of A-level entries receiving at least an E - up from 97.8 per cent last summer.
Mr Farron said: "This morning I congratulate our students and their families on their hard work in achieving excellent results which shows the commitment and dedication of the students in the South Lakes.
"I also congratulate the teaching and support staff for the hard work they have shown to enable our young people to achieve these fantastic results.
"To improve our counties results yet again this year is a fantastic achievement and my congratulations go to all involved.”
