FURNESS students have received a welcome boost after a local college announced plans to build a £2.5m sports hall as part of its £43m revamp.
Furness College gave the green light to the move which will see the arena being developed in partnership with Cumbria Cricket Ltd and England and Wales Cricket Board.
The college, in Barrow, will also spend £750,000 on the new pitch, in addition to the £2.5m it is spending on the sports hall.
Mark Nicholson, deputy principal for curriculum and quality at the college said the new facilities would ensure the sport would continue to develop within south Cumbria.
The work will begin at the end of July and it is set to be finished by next spring.
