Grey skies failed to dampen the enthusiasm of the residents of Kendal's Hallgarth, who turned out in their hundreds for Diamond Jubilee celebrations centered on the Community Centre.
Organised by St Thomas's Community Connections, the event had indoor and outdoor activities for the children, quizzes, competitions, and refreshments, with cakes donated by an army of local bakers.
Kendal Fire and Rescue brought along a fire engine, and Mr Punch and his wife Judy kept a young audience spellbound while a raincloud passed by overhead.
Organisers said it was proof that traditional entertainments could be just as much fun as Nintendos and Playstations.
