A small south Lakeland community came together to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and enjoy an afternoon of sports.
Following their morning of fancy dress, where the ’Queen and her corgi’ came out in first place, Grayrigg residents took to the school field for some races.
As well as the conventional running for the children, there were also novelty races for both the young and the young-at-heart. And the adult three-legged race certainly sparked some serious competition.
Secretary of the Grayrigg Jubilee committee, Judith Gui, said: “It’s nice to see everyone out – we’ve got parents and grandparents here with their children. And they all seem to be enjoying themselves and the sunshine.
“As well as the races, there are cream teas being sold for St John’s Church, raffles and face painting. It’s a great family day out.”
And Joanna Parkins, of Grayrigg, had even painted her toe nails in red, white and blue colours.
She said: “We have the sports day every year, but it’s nice to join it with the Diamond Jubilee.
“It’s also good that as well as Grayrigg school children, there are some from other places – showing that people from the wider community have also come along.
“We are not in London but there are still so many people that have gone to such effort to make something of it.”
