A WIDE and quirky mix of home-made fancy dress outfits could be spotted on children during Burneside's Diamond Jubilee party.
Organisers of the parade decided to set a challenge for their residents. Instead of simple fancy dress they asked people to make their own, with prizes only being awarded for do-it-yourself costumes.
Lego men, pirates, bees and a royal collection box were among some of the highlights children wore at the event today.
Emma Butterworth, chairman of the organising committee, said she enjoyed seeing all the outfits.
"The whole point of this event was to get the whole community working together," said Mrs Butterworth. "It's brilliant to see so many people turn out and make the effort. Everyone looks amazing."
