BURTON-in-Kendal’s annual Sports Day was given a Jubilee twist with a ‘Best of British’ theme.
Residents of individual streets in the village decorated their own floats and there was some brilliant creativity with designs including Glastonbury, afternoon tea, and British military history.
A horse-drawn carriage led the parade through the village to the sports field in glorious weather, where the new Rose Queen was crowned, as well as her attendants and rosebuds for the coming year.
There was also a fancy dress competition for children.
Taking part in the parade and dressed as a soldier, cattle breeder Julian Rowley said: “It has worked brilliantly and it is great to get everyone together. The turnout is immense.”
