ONE of the most famous sporting trophies in the world visited a Lake District school as part of a national tour to promote golf.
The Open Championship’s Claret Jug stopped off at Windermere School where more than 60 pupils took part in activities, posed for souvenir photographs and participated in a putting challenge.
Jane Scott, head of admissions and marketing at the school, said: “We were delighted to welcome the Claret Jug to Windermere School as it is a truly unique piece of sporting history. Our students had a fantastic time.”
Year ten student and keen golfer Ben Carradus added: “It’s been an honour to see the Claret Jug so close-up. Seeing such an iconic trophy has been a huge inspiration to me.”
The Open Championship takes place at Royal Lytham And St Annes between July 19 and 22.
