A RURAL community celebrated the Cumbrian summer - despite today’s low temperatures - with a lively sports day.
About a hundred Underbarrow residents took to the fields for a village rounders game, followed by a Jubilee BBQ and Tea at the Village Hall.
Families also took part in three-legged races, egg and spoon and hula hoop competitions in an event which proved the strength and close knit nature of the community.
Underbarrow dad David Lee celebrated after his grand daughter won a medal.
He said: “This is for the kids - it’s great to see them out together.
“We will watch the Jubilee events on TV tomorrow, but we’re having our community get together first.”
Mark Hayton, 42, of Holme, turned up to the event with daughter Alisia Hayton, aged 5, and Olivia Lee, aged 12.
He said he was looking forward to taking part in the rounders event.
“I will be good - or I certainly used to be.”
Helen Bland, of Underbarrow, said the turnout had been great, although many of the residents had been forced to wrap up warmer than in previous years.
“This isn’t just for the Jubilee,” she said, “Our community hosts a sports day every year for people to get together.”
