A FEAST of food, music and colour did Tebay residents proud as nearly 100 people flocked to a Jubilee street party.
Neighbours from around 14 households in Mount Pleasant, plus their friends and families, donned Union Jack dress to celebrate Her Majesty’s 60-year reign.
An electric atmosphere was lapped up by young and old alike as guests tucked into a royal repast of sandwiches, homemade cakes, jellies and ice-cream which was laid across tables stretching 60 feet-long.
And with a disco, games and a spirited rendition of the National Anthem at 3pm, one of the region’s most spectacular street parties was soaked up well into Saturday evening.
Residents Ann Lowis, Sue Marsden and Muriel Thornburrow organised the bash.
Mrs Lowis said: “I always knew it would be a success. I have never gone to bed and thought ‘nobody will turn up’.”
It was when Mrs Lowis told friends and family that she ‘felt like the Queen’ while celebrating her Ruby wedding anniversary in March, that discussions for what would become the Eden village’s epic celebration began.
“We had meetings together and 12 people from the street turned up to one,” she explained.
“From that, we had another meeting and now, here we are.”
Bunting started going up in the ally behind residents’ homes a week before the event.
And in a symbol of the street's mounting anticipation, new decorations were added each day leading up to the knees-up.
Mrs Lowis continued: “Everyone that has come has brought something, that was the only rule.
“Everyone has taken that on board and have come with sandwiches, homemade cakes, jellies and ice-cream.
Mrs Marsden said she was delighted at how many had got involved in the street celebration.
“It’s a chance for everybody to get involved,” said Mrs Marsden.
“It’s good for the street and it’s brought everybody out of themselves. We are really pleased with the turnout.”
