FOOD fragrances filled the air in Kendal as Wainwright’s Yard businesses put on a Diamond Jubilee knees-up for shoppers.
Booths, Hadwins, Pizza Express and others marked the royal milestone while raising money for Sandgate Hydrotherapy Pool through the sale of raffle tickets and £1 barbecue food.
Staff were busy hanging up Union Jack bunting in the build-up to the street celebration with similarly-designed head gear adding to the party mood as free samples of cakes and fruit were handed out.
And a Punch and Judy puppet show kept the children entertained.
Dawn O’Sullivan, from Booths supermarket, said: “We wanted to do something as a store to generate some atmosphere!
“It’s a good reason to celebrate - and for the good of Sandgate.”
Fellow colleague Breda Crabtree added: “It’s about being patriotic and celebrating 60 years. I think the Queen has done a good job.”
