CHEERS and laughter from young and old alike lit up Grasmere Village Park as scores of people enjoyed the Jubilee celebrations.
Following the Grasmere Players' sold-out production of a ‘Right Royal Do’ last night, residents and visitors turned up to join in the fun at today’s sport events.
Organised by the village’s R.O.A.B, there was something for everyone with races for both the young and young-at-heart.
Bill Bate, who played a part in the event’s organisation, said he was pleased with the turn-out.
“There are many Grasmere schoolchildren here but also people from further away – we’ve got a lot of support," he said.
“All the children get special Diamond Jubilee mugs, which have been provided by the community, and all winners of the races get medals."
And one winner, eight-year-old Lauren Taylor, seemed to be revelling in the running races.
She said: “I’m having a really good day – I came second in the girls eight and nine year old race, and I’m about to run in another one.”
Lauren’s mum, Miranda Taylor, said: “The events here seem to be really well organised – I’m very impressed. The organisers have clearly put a lot of effort into arranging everything.”
