ONE of the most famous sporting trophies in the world was in the South Lakes this morning.
The Open Championship’s Claret Jug visited Windermere School as part of a tour aimed at boosting the profile of golf.
More than 60 pupils took part in activities, posed for souvenir photographs and took part in a putting challenge.
Jane Scott, head of admissions and marketing at the school, said: “We were delighted to welcome the Claret Jug to Windermere School as it is a truly unique piece of sporting history.
“Our students have been excited all week and have had a fantastic time this morning.”
Year ten student Ben Carradus added: “It’s been an honour to see the Claret Jug so close-up.
"I'm a keen golfer myself and am currently working towards my handicap.
“Seeing such an iconic trophy has been a huge inspiration to me.”
The Open Championship takes place at Royal Lytham & St Annes between July 19 and 22.
