A £120,000 grant has helped Kirkby Stephen Grammar School upgrade its sports hall.
Olympic legacy cash from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities Fund has allowed the completion of the second phase of the facility.
The sports hall was completed in July 2011 but pupils and public users were unable to access toilets, showers or changing rooms.
Insufficient funding also meant the first floor function rooms were not finished.
But the grant has transformed the hall into a fully-functioning facility which will increase participation of pupils and community groups.
New clubs will be set up including a regular meeting for disabled youngsters.
Eden Valley Sports Partnership, which is based at the school, will move into a new office in the hall and use it every week to run activities involving schools across the district.
Head teacher David Keetley said: “We are delighted to secure the Inspired Facilities grant. It is only right that Kirkby Stephen, with its long tradition of sport clubs and sporting success, should have a first-class facility, partly funded by the Olympic legacy.”
The school, which raised £720,000 of the £800,000 needed to fund the hall, is organising a summer open day to showcase its facilities.
