KENDAL’S Queen Katherine School is to fly the flag for South Lakeland at a national spelling contest.
Just 77 schools across England have reached the semi-finals of the 2012 Times Spelling Bee – and QKS is one of only two schools in Cumbria to have made the grade.
Lancaster Girls Grammar School also reached the semi-finals.
Pupils will take part in round one online, with top-scoring schools going forward to the final at the Institute of Education in London on June 21
