A GROUP of Kendal teachers is now enduring blisters and aching legs after completing a 32-mile walk for good causes.
Kirkbie Kendal School’s Mark Buckland, Chris Pattinson, Duncan Green, David Causey, Kyrene Townley, David Barton, Gemma Bethom, George Airey, Lesley Peacock, Sally Dangerfield and Tim Seddon all took part in the 35th annual Workington to Keswick Charity Walk to raise money for the event’s supported charities.
Despite finding it challenging, head of art Mr Buckland said he was glad he participated.
“I did the walk the first time it was organised, but there is a big difference in fitness between me as a 17-year-old and as a 52-year-old, so I found it difficult — it’s a long way. We couldn’t have asked for better weather though and, despite us all being walking wounded at school the next day, there was a huge sense of personal achievement in getting to the finish line.”
Languages teacher Chris Pattinson also said that the sore feet didn’t ruin the day.
“We all had fun even though it was hard work — the scenery was beautiful and it’s good to support such excellent causes. Hopefully we will all have recovered in time to do it again next year.”
So far the the teachers have rasied between £700 and £800, which will be split between the Great North Air Ambulance, Breast Cancer Care and the Karl Hatt (JNR) Fund.
