A FIJIAN judo fighter who is training at Kendal Dojo got her 2012 competitions off to a winning start this week.
Sisilia Naisiga, 32, last competed in the UK in 2002 when she won a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester.
And her triumphant return to competition in St Helens landed her the North West Open Championship title for +70kg.
She said: “I am getting used to being here now and to the conditioning and training. I don’t usually have any competitions back in Fiji so it went really well and I am really happy.
“This week I have been working on my grippage so that I can gain better control of my opponents.”
Nasiga will travel to Paris this weekend for a Grand Slam event and she will attend a three-day training camp which follows, with Kendal Judo Club’s Michael Horley also attending.
