CARTMEL Priory school’s motto ‘live life to the full’ was reinvigorated as students celebrated the first annual speech day since its conversion to Academy status.
Special guest the Rt Rev James Newcome, Bishop of Carlisle, handed out prizes to pupils who were praised for their hard work and exam results at GCSE, which this year included 71 per cent A* — C (including English and maths).
The school’s international sports stars were also celebrated at the event, with a special mention given to Ryan Patterson and Tom Woodburn who represented Great Britain at baseball, and Natalie Beadle, who was selected for the British team at the World Orienteering Championships in Italy.
Addressing parents, teachers and pupils, head teacher Dr Paul Williams said the school’s decision to become an Academy allowed it to make the most of new opportunities.
“Our commitment is to use Academy Trust status to maintain the traditions, strengths and ethos of the school and to continue to do our best to provide opportunities for every child to ‘live life to the full’.”
He also praised the school’s production of We Will Rock You and pupils’ efforts to raise over £3,000 for charities Macmillan Cancer Support, Children in Need and St Mary’s Hospice, Ulverston.
