TWO Cumbrian brothers were over the moon after winning supreme sheep with their two-year-old texel for the second time this year.
Christopher and Thomas Ladds, of Benson Hall Farm, Levens, had never won the title before, despite many years of trying, but this year they have secured the double, scooping top prize in front of hundreds of people at Selside and Grayrigg Show, having won at Cartmel on August 3.
Proud mother Catherine Ladds said her family were ‘really surprised’.
“Both boys said it was the best experience of their life,” said Mrs Ladds. “The texel looks really good.”
In the cattle section, Henry Knowles, of Myers Farm, Docker, secured supreme cow with his holstein.
Show secretary Janet Procter said all the entries were up on last year with 60 per cent more people having a go in the produce categories.
New for 2011 was a vintage vehicle class, which Mrs Procter said had a good amount of entries.
“The weather was beautiful and we were really happy with the turn-out,” said Mrs Procter.
“It’s a really nice little local show - all the young kids really got into the spirit of the day as well.”
Showgoers were also offered the chance to watch Cumberland and Westmorland wrestling, plus the opportunity to witness foxhounds and terriers being paraded and enjoying a browse around the craft and art stalls.
