A THRILLED pupil at Casterton day and boarding school is celebrating after receiving 11 A*s in her GCSE examinations. “I am unbelievably happy with these results,” said Hannah Rafferty, 16, who has boarded at Casterton since the age of 10. Hannah, whose father serves with the Armed Forces, has attended five different schools, including a co-ed school, as her family were regularly relocated. “At a girls’ school, you are able to focus on your work and study in a more companiable environment,” said Hannah. “ I can now look forward to the sixth form at Casterton and all the new responsibilities that this will bring.” Colonel Peter Rafferty, Hannah’s delighted father, said: “Hannah’s results are a measure of the commitment of Casterton’s staff to help each girl achieve her full potential. “Hannah has clearly benefitted from the wider extra-curricular, academic and pastoral opportunities that the school provides and will continue to enjoy into the sixth form.” Overall, 82% of entries at Casterton were awarded A* - B at GCSE this year. Maxine Lucas, headmistress of Casterton, said: “We are again celebrating another set of outstanding GCSE results. They are a credit to the dedication of our girls and the superb teaching and support from all our teaching staff. “The girls have achieved these results whilst taking part in a wide range of extra-curricular and leadership activities; this has resulted in enthusiastic, confident and independent young women who are ready for the challenges and rewards of the sixth form.”
