VOCATIONAL courses are prospering at Windermere's Lakes School with pupils 'excelling' in this year's A Level results.
Head teacher, David Selby, at the specialist sports college said 'all results were slightly' stronger than last year and he was 'delighted' with the increase in student's success.
Over-the-moon 18-year-old Sarah Briggs was 'very excited' to open her grades in Psychology A*, Geography A and Biology B.
"I wasn't expecting the A* so I'm really happy," Ms Briggs of Hawkshead said. The former head girl will take up her sought after place to study Psychology at Sheffield University.
Natalie Valle, of Windermere, who secured a grade B in photography and a C in Art said decided not to go to university.
"I'm going to a private college in London to study make up," said Ms Valle. "I don't want to have the big debts and the course I'm doing supports you after I've finished to get further employment."
AS student Vicky Bowe, who was awarded an A in photography, B in Media Studies, and a Distinction in Business said she was planning to go to university next year despite the top of free.
"I want to go to Lancaster University," said Ms Bowe."The top up fees haven't put me or my friends off." Frank Sowerby-Thomas of Windermere, was 'extremely pleased' with his results with two As in both French and History and a B in German.
He made the difficult decision to re-sit his final year at The Lakes School to ensure he could study Italian and European Studies at university which he has now achieved.
Mr Selby said all students have 'really excelled this year'. Vocational courses including Outdoor Education plus Travel and Tourism, saw pupils securing 'exceptional' results.
The school has offered students the opportunity to study vocational courses for the past ten years which Mr Selby has allowed a lot of students to 'succeed' outside academic topics.
