A Lake District transport project is to get a multi-million pound boost.
The Lake District Sustainable Transport Beacon Area programme – which aims to encourage greater integration of public transport and improve walking and cycling routes – has won £4.9m from the Department of Transport.
Westmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Farron said: “The grant will be a big boost for the Lake District.
"Too often people face little choice but to get in their cars to see the beauty of the area.
"Many visitors would like to use green local transport options, whether that’s bikes, buses or boats, and we want to make it easier for people to do this.
“The Beacon Area will help achieve this, through integrating bus, bike, boat and car networks, bringing in extra revenue while making sure that the national park is seen in a sustainable way.”
