A JOINER from Holme has retired after five decades with a north Lancashire building firm.
Billy Wain joined E & E Duckett & Sons straight from school as an apprentice in 1961 and was workshop foreman for the last 25 years.
Mr Wain, 65, attended college in Kendal and Lancaster and went on to work for the Carnforth-based company for 50 years.
He has helped train a number of joiners, many of whom still work there.
As a thank you for his years of service, colleagues are making some garden furniture to present to the father-of-two.
Among his many projects, Mr Wain helped make the entrance to Kendal Parish Church.
Mr Wain said: “As a lad, my parents owned a shop and they used to put all their stuff in the garage and I used to make things out of them.
“There’s a lot of satisfaction in making something a little bit special.
“I will miss not working.”
