HAWKSHEAD Relish bosses Mark and Maria Whitehead are used to accolades for their amazing range of chutneys and preserves.
However, winning a category in the 2010 Westmorland Gazette Business and Tourism Awards – the first to be held – proved something extra special.
Mrs Whitehead described scooping the Retailer of the Year Award as ‘a great achievement’, and urged other businesses to consider entering the 2011 awards.
“In a competitive world, awards and winning them can offer a level of integrity when introducing new customers and markets to your company.
"They also recognise officially, and publicly, the workforce behind the business, celebrating their hard work and dedication, without which no successful business can operate.
“Having pride in your business, products and workforce is not something to shy away from, but to use as a useful sales, marketing and motivational tool for your business growth.
“The Westmorland Gazette Business Awards offer a great showcase for business.
"Winning the Retailer of the Year Award at the inaugural event last year was a great achievement for Hawkshead Relish.
"It not only recognises the company, but particularly the staff within our shop in Hawkshead of whom we are immensely proud.”
