WINDERMERE School pupils are national debating champions after winning first prize in the Rotary Club’s Youth Speak competition.
Students Pippa Smith, Poppy Bullard and Richard Flint presented on the challenging topic of “But is it art?” at the final in Cranleigh, Surrey.
The team had entered the competition last year but did not progress beyond the school heats.
“We can’t believe it!” said Poppy Bullard, who was also awarded the best speaker trophy. “It is incredible to think we have come so far. We are absolutely over the moon.”
Richard was given the award for best vote of thanks by the judges, which included Good Life actress Penelope Keith.
