I began this week bleary eyed and droopy tailed after an enthusiastic ‘shows over party.‘ Last weekend here in Sedbergh the members of Rose Community Theatre performed their annual musical comedy. The feedback has been excellent. The cast was generously enhanced by local youngsters who were nothing short of brilliant. Of course, they had no trouble in learning their words or songs. However, this capacity seems to have all but deserted me. I didn’t get my worms, sorry words, right once but it makes it fun for those helping with refreshments and the stage crew who no doubt run a spot the mistakes competition as they sit through all four performances. Yes, folks everyone’s different.
Naturally, one or two jobs have built up during the time I have spent playing a ‘lovey.’ The Pulse Community Gym comes immediately to mind and it’s time I got on with filling in the necessary old cobblers, sorry forms, in order to apply for charitable status. The PCG needs to raise a large sum of money toward building a new bespoke gym on the back of the People’s Hall. Plus I’m also putting together with help from my good friends David Collier and Elspeth Griffiths, a book of People’s Hall memories. The book will log the development of the PH from when it opened in the late 1950s. I have been interviewing and collecting photos from Sedbergh people about their memories of times and occasions at the hall. The book should be on sale in October. If anyone has a tale to tell of the life and times in and around the PH, I would be very pleased to hear from them.
Anyway, getting back to my social life. The show may be over but the RCT fun goes on. This Saturday night RCT members will be meeting at ‘Number Ten’ for champers before traversing the red carpet to Duo for our annual awards ceremony the ‘Hilda’s.’ Yes, folks just like the Oscars the members will do their best to cry gracefully and thank everyone from the director to the school milk monitor while accepting the magnificent awards purchased by me from the local charity shop.
