WELL here we are again - Christmas around the corner, New Year coming up and before we know it it’s lambing time again!
One good thing though - it will also be springtime, so we don’t have to put up with this weather for too long!
At the farm, we have now taken up most of the tups and put the jack tups with the ewes. Jack tups are used towards the end of tupping - they are tups that have not had a lot of ewes so they are feeling quite rampant and will tup anything that might have been missed.
We are selling our fat lambs at the auction. Most auctions will have special shows for Christmas, including fat lambs, dairy cows, store cattle and calves. This is a time for local farmers to get together for a chat and a good crack - hopefully over a festive tipple and mince pie. But especially it gives us a chance to show our stock.
All the sheep have to be fed early due to the weather conditions but, hey ho, it is winter and we hope spring comes soon before the hay and silage runs out.
Well that’s it for this year! I hope you all have a lovely Christmas and a Happy New Year. Stay safe and warm, and most of all sober - ‘yeah right’. Ha Ha!
