THE Bishop of Carlisle was urged to exchange his clerical wear for a tracksuit as he tested out new playground equipment at Crosscrake Primary School on Monday.
The Rt Rev James Newcome was visiting the school to bless the new sports hall, infants’ class, kitchen area and outdoor play equipment.
The new buildings are a major expansion for the 150-year-old school, which is believed to incorporate a much older Tudor tithe barn.
Head teacher Linda Fletcher said: “These new resources mean we can offer children an even better environment to learn in. We have wonderful rooms, with massive windows which make the most of the great view we have, a proper hall and new play equipment.
“Our school has served generations of families in the area and now this new work will benefit future generations.”
